Shish Barak is a traditional dish made in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and Palestine. But perhaps this dish from Turkish/Ottoman origins, which is basically made of minced meat or chicken dumplings cooked in a plain yogurt stew with Swiss chard (sliver beet). Chicken Shish Barak is very old dish about more than 100 years.

Preparation of the Chicken Shish Brarak is required for a relatively long time, but this recipe is loaded with protein, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin K, and phosphorus. Therefore it is suitable on family table and friends.

Amazing Chicken Shish Barak with Swiss chard Recipe


Yield: 4 Persons

Preparation Time: 60 Minutes

Cooking Time: 30 Minuutes

Level: Medium





2 cups flour

1 tsp baking powder

Pinch of salt

1 3/4 cup lukewarm water

300g minced chicken


Creamy yogurt:


8 cups yogurt, stabilize

4 tsp cornstarch

1 onion, chopped fine

4 cloves garlic, chopped fine

1 tsp allspice

3 red chilies, chopped fine and deseeded

3 cups Swiss chard, chopped coarsely

Chicken stock


Method of Dough


1- Mix all ingredients and knead to make smooth dough.

2- Divide into small balls. Cover with plastic and set aside for 30 minutes.

3- Roll and fill with minced chicken and nut filling.

4- Place on cookie sheet. Put in oven 300 degrees just to dry dough.

5- Use to cook with yogurt and freeze remaining tortellini.


Method of Creamy yogurt


1- Stabilize yogurt with cornstarch on medium heat. Add shish barak.

2- In another pot, sauté onion and garlic until soft.

3- Add Swiss chard, allspice, chili peppers, chicken stock. Cook for 15 minutes until tender.

4- Pour stock and Swiss chard over yogurt and stir gently and cook until dough is cooked for 10 minutes.

5- Yogurt will thicken.

6- Serve Hot.
